A brief trip through my iPhone…
Hey y’all, Andrew here (with a nice British style of greeting!!???!!!)
So a few of us have posted suggestions for music we think other John fans on here ought to check out - I have a few to add to the list; some of them probably a bit more “known” than other suggestions - but all bands or artists I’ve enjoyed over the years. I’ve posted the artist name, and an example of one album that I think people would like.
Biffy Clyro - Scottish rock band, got a nice raw sound to them, fairly magnificent live, album of choice “Only Revolutions” - especially “Bubbles”
Damien Rice - singer, songwriter, responsible for the album “O” which is a great chillout listen!
Ed Sheeran - he’s a bit “big” at the moment! I’ve been listening to his stuff for a fair few years, he did lots of EPs and collaborations - he’s a singer, songwriter who seems to have a lot of crossover appeal. His debut album is called “+”, his best EP was “Loose Change”
Flylow - if you can find any of their stuff! Saw them live in a pub in Keighley years ago, they had an album out but split up not long after. From Finland. The album is called “Bridges” and the guitarist was excellent!!!”
Frank Turner - a kind of English troubadour, frank just travels the country playing gig after gig after gig - his best two albums for me are “Love, Ire and Song” and “Poetry of the Deed” - songs to look out for incluse “Long Live the Queen”, “Isabel” and “The Ballad of me and my Friends”, the latter of which will speak to anyone who’s ever been to a live gig anywhere ever!!!
Graham Coxon - best known as the guitarist for Blur, that seminal Britpop band, Graham is a phenomenal guitarist who’s simple sounding playing is occasionally rather complex! Sound familiar? “Happiness in Magazines” is a good solo album
Manic Street Preachers - insane Welsh rockers with a large back catalogue and a great lead vocalist/guitarist in the shape of James Dean Bradfield - look up “This is my truth, now tell me yours” or “Send Away the Tigers”
PJ Harvey - my brother’s favourite artist, Polly is a little bit mental, but produces some quality tunes. “Dry” is a phenomenal album, and her latest release, “Let England Shake” is fairly special too!
Honorary mentions to Oasis, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age etc, who I’m sure we all already know. Or do we…??
